The Brotherhood of Salesianians of Don Bosco from Italy started its work in Sudan 70 years ago and is since then engaged in social projects all over the country. Since the beginning of the civil war the focus of its programms lays on the support of internally displaced persons (IDPs), who came mainly from the south of the country seeking refuge in the north. Don Bosco cares for education, health and vocational training. Currently 15 Salesian-brothers work along with local experts in 4 branches all over the country. DED supports Don Bosco in the field of technical and administrative coordination for the vocational training centre in El Obeid. Furthermore, DED is engaged in the field of curricula development, training and promotion of the skills of instructors, vocational training itself and capacitiy development for the training centre.

The Technical Training Centre in El Obeid, which opened in 2002, provides trainings in seven different technical fields for 500 youth, mainly IDPs from Dafur and the Nuba Mountains, as well as students from the local community.
